Garden City, Kansas -- Federal and state law enforcement personnel called off a search along the Amtrak rail lines in this eastern Kansas town. Unconfirmed sources report that the missing crewmember of the Southwest Chief train has been found. According to these unnamed sources, the crewmember appeared to have been sexually assaulted before being murdered in a cold-blooded professional style. Her nude body was apparently dumped from the moving train several miles outside Garden City, Kansas. These sources have been unable to confirm that her attacker is one of the illegal arms smugglers arrested after the train arrived early Friday morning. There was a gun battle aboard the train late Thursday night in which four people were killed.
In related news, Amtrak officials have announced a tightening of security aboard their interstate rail services. At a press conference called this morning at Amtrak headquarters in Washington, DC, spokesman Brett Dewan said, "It is a sad day that the national rail services have to start taking the same security precautions as international air carriers. We will have metal detectors and armed security at all of our stations by the end of the year."
Hanoi, Viet Nam -- The Government of Viet Nam has issued a request for bids for oil drilling rights in the East Spratlys Islands. The Viet Nam Government has claimed these islands for over twenty years, and have recently started making efforts to exploit the rich natural gas and petrochemical resources in this island chain. Several international oil corporations are said to be interested in bidding on the contract, which would go into effect later this year.
New York City, New York -- Supporters and members of the New America "patriot" organization held a peaceful rally at the steps of City Hall today to call for an end to the "tyranny and oppression of the illegal Federal Government." Stephen Williams, self-proclaimed leader of the New York City Cell of New America, ranted against the government of the United States while waving the recently-published New Millenium, New America, the manifesto of New America leader Carl Hughes.
"The illegal Federal Government has again overstepped the bounds of their Constitutional authority! We now have jack-booted Federal thugs engaging in gunfights using military automatic weapons aboard Amtrak passenger trains! What's next, ATF commandos storming the local 7-11? This has got to stop!"
The rally, attended by over a hundred supporters of the New America organization, ended after several hours. The crowds dispersed peacefully. Police reported no arrests, although they were on alert because numerous New America supporters allegedly possess illegal military assault weapons.
